Topless PETA Demonstrators outside KFC

Where’s my camera when I need it? And why don’t these girls do their thing at a KFC near me, dang it? Topless demonstrators for PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) were spotted hanging outside a KFC joint in central Sydney. What you hiding there, honey? You got something to say? Then how about saying it out in the open? Other than the ladies that posed nude for the planet, PETA is trying the bare skin approach, too.

Good luck girls.Yo! Ladies. We have KFCs here in California. And, you know, there are no laws against going naked in San Francisco? I suppose if you went topless there, nobody would care. Well, nobody but me.Police were called in to arrest the girls and detain them. I suppose there were no shortage of volunteers for that duty at the downtown Sydney police station.

Topless Girls Protest Bullfights with Blood

I am serious now. I have got to come up with a plan that girls everywhere will protest against. Girls will go bare to protest bear skins. I could bear that. And others went topless to protest KFC. At least 15 celebrities posed nude for the planet(not really a protest.)

Well, here are some more girls, going topless and having blood (fake) smattered on their backs to protest bullfights.

Dang it! Why can’t I come up with something that girls will show up topless to protest against? Any ideas. I don’t cut my grass enough. I cut it too much. It’s not green enough. I use to much water trying to keep it green.

Help me out here. What cause can you think of to get girls to show up with no clothes on to fight against?

Topless Activists Protest Bear Skin with Bare Skin

The post about 3 topless PETA demonstrators protesting outside KFC generated quite a buzz. Not much sympathy, just buzz and a desire to have the girls make a real statement. You know, stand up and be seen. That kind of thing.

Turns out the PETA people have friends in Britain too. The girls are showing bare skin to protest using bear skin. Those hats. What’s up with that?

I remember seeing Natalie Portman in a picture emphasizing the fact that she was wearing faux leather. In other words, she just wants to look like she killed an animal to get its skin, not really kill the animal.

It reminds me of the hippie types wearing army fatigues. They want to look like they are in the army but don’t want to serve. What’s up with that, too?

Okay, girls. You want to make a statement. Stand up and be seen, dang it! Or sit

Faye Wong Asia’s Sexiest Vegetarian

The animal rights group (PETA) voted Faye Wong Asia’s Sexiest vegetarian woman. Faye Wong is known as the “heavenly queen” or “diva of Asia”. She beat out Maggie Q who starred in “Mission Impossible III” with Tom Cruise.

Wong was born in Beijing and starred in the “Chungking Express.” She has been featured on the covers of Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire. That would make her a friend to animals but not trees, eh?

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachan won the award for Asia’s Sexiest Vegetarian man.

PETA does its darnest to use celebrities to attract public attention. Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington posed naked for posters saying, “I’d rather go naked than wear fur.” Hmm, I wonder if we could get Wong to do the same.

Anya Ayoung-Chee has been named the champion of "Project Runway" season 9, beating out three other remaining contestants. The 29-year-old designer initially looked like she almost gave up her shot at winning the coveted title as she told Tim Gunn that she was not 100 percent happy with her collection.

Earlier in the second part of the finale, the four finalists were given a shopping spree at Mood with a $500 budget. Anya and Viktor Luna used this opportunity to rework some of their designs. The former picked white and black fabrics which did not fit the original color pattern of her collection, while the latter scrapped his gown for a new sexy black cheetah print fitted dress.

When Tim visited Anya, she admitted that she felt her new looks were not the best of her work. Meanwhile, Joshua McKinley became frustrated when he still had a lot of work to do two days before the runway show. Kimberly Goldson created a drama backstage at Fashion Week when she lost her sewing kit and needed a zipper. Fortunately, Anya was there to give her a hand.

The four finalists finally showed their collections at the Fashion Week in Lincoln Center. Kimberly had a Brooklyn-themed collection which was fairly accessible and wearable. Next was Josh's which was dedicated to his mother, but Tim thought he did not seem to be trying to give his best with it.

Viktor's collection was inspired by Mexico, but it is still wearable in New York City as he described it beach girl meets city. Anya's, meanwhile, was inspired by Tobago and oozed easy, sexy vibe.

After some considerations, the judges narrowed down the potential winners to Anya and Josh. In the end, the judges decided that Anya deserved the champion title as they thought they could picture what a future Anya shoe or bag or dress might look like. She took home $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris, a fashion spread in Marie Claire, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel and the opportunity to design and sell a collection on Piperlime.com.

Anya's collection, which is inspired by Tobago, gets praises from judges for its prints and theme although she initially thought her new looks were not the best of her work.

This morning when I turned on the TV I saw the Ariana Lima, the genetically-perfect Victoria Secret Angel, being interviewed while sporting a $2 million bra. Then I noticed that she happened to be in the same Victoria Secret flagship store in Soho that's just a hop, skip, and jump from the BroBible office. I immediately got on the train and made a bee-line for the store. When I got there you could barely see the Brazilian model thanks to throngs of paparazzi. Determined to snap some photos, I wiggled my way through and I managed to get a few shots of the publicity stunt.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t on the list and they wouldn’t let me into the store to continue collecting photos. If they only knew how much BroBible loves Adriana Lima and all of Victoria Secret’s models they may have been more inclined to let us in (for further proof, see here, here, here, here, here, and here). Check out Adriana Lima sporting a bra after the jump.....READ MORE

Giuliana Rancic, the 36-year-old host of “E! News” and “Fashion Police” announced on the “Today Show” that she has early stage breast cancer.

The cancer was discovered on a mammogram she had at the insistence of her infertility specialist, according to an article in Boston Globe. Unless there is a particularly high risk of breast cancer, mammograms are generally not recommended for women under the age of 40.

Globe writer Deborah Kotz wonders if Rancic’s case may encourage other young women to insist on mammograms, and if that’s a good idea. Here’s an excerpt from her article:

“While Rancic was lucky, her urging women to get screened, as she did this morning, requires some qualifications. Mammograms are known to be particularly poor imaging tools for finding tumors in young women; that’s because women in their 30s tend to have denser breast tissue th

at looks similar to a tumor, which is also dense. Often mammograms miss significant tumors in those under 40 and even more commonly, they find a host of abnormalities that turn out not to be cancer.

“I’m worried, though, that women may be swayed more by Rancic’s powerful story than the faceless, emotionless science.”....READ MORE

RIM BlackBerry New 2011
news,celebrities,trends,fashions,films,drama,videos,scandals,artists,phenomenals,sensation,beauty,actions

With global BlackBerry
services only restored this morning, things can’t seem to get worse for RIM these
days. With PlayBook sales looking like that ’50s dance where you hold your nose and sink,
and phone sales not looking much better relative to the competition, RIM’s now
looking like it’s even bad at basic office IT. In a comically metaphoric
picture of what’s wrong with the company, global-service outages resulted thanks to
everything getting bunged up by its central server, where all BlackBerry traffic gets
siphoned through. After RIM BlackBerry server toilets started backup, they were so full of
data crap that they effectively denial-of-serviced themselves.

Customers were the ones left holding RIM-branded turds. The kicker here is that this wasn’t an
Anonymous hack. The problems were entirely RIM’s own doing. The company’s now-infamous
bureaucracy has harmed the brand in a time when smart leadership and clear
vision are the only thing to prevent it from being gang-shivved by competitors,
American Me style. RIM’s complete lack of sex appeal was bad for consumer
sales, but this latest tale of incompetence has even the suits pissed. Increasingly, the
people using BlackBerrys are forced to by their work, and that looks like it won’t...READ MORE

Caroline Manzo Goes Off on Teresa Giudice

The Real Housewives of New Jersey continue to trade soul-jarring insults. To wit: Teresa Giudice believes Melissa Gorga is the devil, while Jacqueline Laurita labels Teresa as scum.

Now, Carolina Manzo is getting in on the bashing game, going off to Us Weekly about Giudice, who dissed her co-star in her Fabulicious! cookbook, referring her "as Italian as the Olive Garden." That's pretty good, actually.

"Teresa is a wolf in sheep's clothing," Manzo says, adding of her former friendship with Giuidce: "It was all a charade" in Teresa's eyes.

On this Sunday's reunion show, meanwhile, Caroline describes how her bond with sister Dina, a Giudice ally, has been damaged due to Teresa's actions. The siblings aren't speaking these days.

"[Teresa] is hurting people to bring herself up," Manzo says. "We all make mistakes and can be cruel and heartless in the things we say and do, but [Teresa's behavior] is different - premeditated. To sit there and try to hurt someone... assault their character, it's unacceptable. I'm done."

Until the scripts for next season arrive, that is.

RHONJ's Dina Manzo Sees Red (and No, We're Not Talking About Danielle!)

Keen observers of the Real Housewives of New Jersey — and let's face it, there are a lot of keen observers (i.e., obsessed fans) of Bravo's big-hit, guilty-pleasure reality show — may have noticed something a little uncharacteristic about Dina Manzo in recent episodes. And no, we're not talking about anything uttered during her heated, so-good-it-needed-two-episodes confrontation with Danielle Staub. After all, Dina's the Housewife who kicks off the opening of every show with the line, "If you think I'm a bitch, then bring it on." So we should have known she wouldn't sit back and play nice with Danielle's antics for long.

No, we're talking about something subtler: A bright red streak in her big Jersey-girl blonde hair. The kind of streak you'd expect to see on a junior-high girl testing the waters of a forthcoming punk-rock sensibility; the kind of temporary color a tween star might sport for a rock-concert scene on one of Nickelodeon's hit shows.

The reason it caught Tonic's attention? The red hair extension isn't about shock value or Dina's needing any more personal attention than the show already brings. It's about raising money to help kids with cancer.

Through the Lucky Locks initiative, until the end of June, anyone can get a red hair extension just like Dina's from SHE Hair Extensions by SO.CAP USA, at a variety of salons all across this country — for a donation of just $10. All of that $10 will go toward the Project Ladybug Fund at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Paterson, NJ, to help build a playground for kids who are too sick to leave hospital grounds during treatment.

"I have two in my hair right now," Dina tells Tonic. "It's a great look!"

For a great cause.

Dina Manzo founded Project Ladybug in 2007 — "before I was a twinkle in Bravo's eye," as she puts it — as a way to use her time and talents to make a difference in the lives of real-life families. Like a lot of people, she had written checks to charities and wondered if her money was really being put to good use. But then, one day, she received a solicitation in the mail that included a photo of a young girl suffering Leukemia — and the girl in the picture looked a lot like her daughter, Lexi.

"This could so easily have been me and my daughter going through this," she tells Tonic. And that emotion flicked a switch in her. She realized: "I'm an event planner," she says. "My husband owns a catering facility" — the famous Brownstone that plays such a pivotal role on the show. "Everything's at my fingertips."

What started as just one annual charity event, a Ladies Night full of pampering and fundraising for local women at the Brownstone, quickly grew into a national organization, with multiple events, delivering fantastic results, and (thanks to Bravo) the ability to reach a massive audience.

"The show gave Ladybug her wings," says Dina, "and I couldn't be more proud."

From granting Make-a-Wish-type dreams for kids, to running pampering days (complete with babysitting) for the moms of patients, to giving families laptops so their kids can be home-schooled, Dina's organization does it all — and she's hoping to expand to more hospitals all across the country in the coming years.

"I have full control over what the money goes to. And everyone is a volunteer. No one gets paid. Everyone is donating their time," Dina says. "The only one paid is our accountant — we can't mess around with that."

"I work very closely with the hospital and the social workers and we go over each case, and we decide how to spend the money. I'm really overseeing every penny and I know where every dime goes," she says.

She also uses it as a teaching opportunity for her daughter, Lexi, who comes to the fundraisers and helps out wherever she can.

t seems far removed from the tension-fraught craziness that we see on the Real Housewives show — because real life is often very different from Reality TV, Dina notes. And viewers haven't seen the half of it yet this season.

"You wouldn't think you could top the table flip [from last season], but if you've seen the previews, I think we do!" she says with a laugh.

Dealing with Danielle Staub, someone the Manzos simply wouldn't be friendly with or associate with were it not for the show, has been tough on the family, Dina tells Tonic: "After the good TV ratings [that the fights with Danielle brought in last year], we're stuck with a nightmare that just doesn't go away. It's a crazy situation," she says.

But continuing to participate in the show "definitely has its upside," she adds. And the biggest one is that it gives her such a big ability to give back.

"Some of these kids I consider family," she says. "I get very close to them. I take them to dinner and go shopping, outside of Ladybug."

Because of the Bravo exposure, "People come out from all over the country to support us now. Families have reached out with children in the hospital, who just need someone to talk to," she says. Such a huge crowd of supporters came out to her most recent Ladies Night at the Brownstone, on June 7, she was able to raise $200,000 for the cause in a single evening.

And that's exactly why she was convinced to come back for this second season of RHONJ nuttiness.

As to the rampant rumors that Dina Manzo will be quitting the Real Housewives for good? Her rep would neither confirm nor deny. (And neither would Dina!) You'll just have to tune in to Monday night's episode to find out. But have no doubt: Coming back for a second season was truly all for a good cause.

"I was very reluctant," she understandably admits. "But I have goals to meet." And when it comes to Project Ladybug, she says simply: "I'm not done yet."

More Problems for Materialistic Couples More love of money

More Problems for Materialistic Couples More love of money

Couples who rank money and things as important might be worse off in their relationships than those who aren't as materialistic, a study finds.

Researchers discovered that it may be true what they say: Money can't buy happiness. They surveyed 1,734 married couples across the U.S. about their attitudes toward relationship values and issues such as materialism, compassion, communication and the importance of marriage. Among the participants, 58.7% had either high or low levels of materialism. In that group, 24.1% were both nonmaterialistic, 34.1% were both materialistic, and the rest had dissimilar materialism levels, with one spouse ranking high and the other low.

Couples who didn't place high value on money and things scored moderately higher--about 10% to 15%--on almost every marriage feature on the questionnaire compared with couples who valued materialism. The scores of mismatched couples fell between those who were matched.

"Couples where both spouses are materialistic were worse off on nearly every measure we looked at," said lead author Jason Carroll in a news release. Carroll, a professor of family life at Brigham Young University, added, "There is a pervasive pattern in the data of eroding communication, poor conflict resolution and low responsiveness to each other."

Having more money didn't necessarily make things better. Couples in which both spouses were materialistic tended to be wealthier than couples who didn't place such importance on money.

This may have implications for couples' counseling, the authors noted. "Efforts to develop new interventions aimed directly at addressing the problems associated with materialism in marriage," they wrote, "may be particularly relevant in the current economic context where financial resources may be lower than many couples' expectations."... Google sales, profit estimates crush 2012

Google sales, profit estimates crush 2012

"Gangbusters."

That's how Google's chief executive, Larry Page, summed up his company's third quarter.

The nation's economy may be stalled. Concerns over a global recession may be in overdrive. But Google's digital advertising engine delivered another NASCAR-worthy performance, even with the economic head winds, sending its shares sharply higher.

In after-hours trading, Google shares rose $36, to $595, up more than 6%. The company released its results after the close of regular trading.

Google's quarterly sales and profit crushed Wall Street estimates as businesses shelled out more on ads to reach online consumers, showing yet again why the Internet search giant is far less vulnerable than most in the advertising industry. The vast majority of its revenue comes from advertising, chiefly search ads, which are more popular in a rough economy as businesses look to track the effectiveness of their ad dollars.

Analysts say Google is also gaining market share in display and mobile advertising, two key areas of growth.

"Google really seems to be firing on all cylinders," said Edward Jones technology analyst Josh Olson.

Google earned $2.7 billion, or $8.33 per share, in the three months that ended in September. That was up 26% from nearly $2.2 billion, or $6.72 per share, a year ago. Revenue rose 33% to $9.7 billion from a year earlier.

"Not bad for a 13-year-old," Page boasted in a conference call with analysts.

Pumping out those kinds of results should allay some doubts about Page's leadership, analysts say. The Google co-founder got a lukewarm reception when he took over as chief executive in April, but Google has soared past analysts' forecasts in both quarters since.

Still, investors are concerned about Page investing heavily in what he says is Google's future, buying up companies such as Motorola Mobility, in a $12.5-billion acquisition, and hiring thousands of employees — even as storm clouds darken the horizon.

Analysts are forecasting tough times for Google in 2012 unless the economy rebounds, particularly in Europe where Google is already experiencing some softness.

Excluding employee stock compensation, Google's operating expenses rose by nearly 40% to $6.1 billion. Google added nearly 2,600 workers in the third quarter for a total of more than 31,500 employees, all but assuring that 2011 will be the biggest expansion year in its 13-year history.

Page has curtailed some spending by dumping 20 Google products so employees can divert their attention to more promising initiatives such as its new social network Google+, he said.

Page touted the success of Google+, saying it has added more than 40 million users and 100 features. He also said that engagement is "phenomenal," with users uploading more than 3.4 billion photos.

Google is also focused on its fast-growing mobile business. Its Android mobile software is already the world's most used smartphone platform, powering 190 million devices, up from 135 million in July.

Page said that ad revenue for Google's mobile business is more than $2.5 billion, up from $1 billion a year earlier, a milestone that analyst Olson called "impressive."

The Motorola deal, which Google says it expects to close this year or in early 2012, will come with a large patent portfolio and the hardware manufacturing capacity Google needs to develop its own line of smartphones.

Analysts applaud the acquisition for addressing the threat of patent litigation over Android, including a high-profile trial with Oracle expected to begin this fall. But they remain worried about Google building its own phones, a low-margin business that could undermine other manufacturers' use of Android software...READ MORE RESOURCES

JULIA FLYNN was darting to her classes at Columbia University last week in a Marc by Marc Jacobs daisy-patterned dress and high-heeled Chloé boots, her polished turnout accessorized with a Starbucks venti latte. “I’m really loving the whole Chanel, Valentino and McQueen shows,” she said. “They completely inspired me.” She had gleaned her information that very morning from Style.com.

Ms. Flynn, 24 and a sophomore, is one in a small but self-aware and increasingly vocal contingent of college women who dress to impress. The campus is their runway, a place to show off a style sense that is derived in part from their friends but more often attained through a click of a mouse, a gesture that affords them instant access to the once arcane universe of fashion shows and to the style blogs and shopping sites so many imbibe with their morning brew.

If at one time college women subscribed to a regionally prescribed uniform — twin sets and loafers in the East, frayed jeans and ponchos farther west — now, thanks to the democratizing influence of the Web, trends are disseminated at warp speed, traversing regional borders

and, paradoxically, encouraging a more individualized approach to dress.

Whether students’ tastes run to an urbanely preppie composite of mannish shirts, slim skirts and blazers, flowered dresses and Ferragamo flats, or to a cutting-edge pastiche of long loose-fitting sweaters, calf-length skirts and platform booties, their absorption with fashion points to a sea change, suggesting that the style bar has been raised, reaching a level of sophistication all but unknown a mere decade ago.

“The stereotype used to be that college students live in sweat pants and don’t care about fashion,” said Zephyr Basine, the editor of Collegefashion.net, a blog written by college women. “But today that isn’t so.” If at one time coeds signaled their cool by a kind of willful dishevelment, arriving for 8 a.m. classes in trench coats tossed over pajamas, today that sort of carelessness marks them as out of touch. ...READ MORE

Google Posts Strongly Earnings and Exceeding Expectations 2011

Google showed on Thursday that it was making money from people searching online with their mobile devices, providing evidence that it could follow users wherever they searched the Web.

Google, which presented quarterly earnings that easily surpassed analysts’ expectations, reported that revenue climbed 33 percent and net income rose 26 percent. Although it does not typically break out revenue from different types of ads, it said mobile was on track to generate more than $2.5 billion in revenue in the coming year and grew 2.5 times in the last year.

“When I look back over the last quarter, the word that springs to mind is ‘gangbusters,’ “ Larry Page, Google’s chief executive, said in a call with analysts after the earnings were announ

ced. “It’s not bad for a 13-year-old,” he said, referring to Google’s age.

“We are also seeing a huge positive revenue impact of mobile,” he said.

Google, which makes the Android mobile operating system and offers mobile search, apps and ads, has nearly 100 percent market share in mobile search and is investing heavily in mobile. But until now, it offered little detail on how much mobile ads and Android, which it gives handset manufacturers free, contribute to revenue.

The announcement should appease those analysts concerned about whether Google’s search business would keep up its steady rate of impressive growth. More searches are being done on mobile phones, where people are less likely to click on ads and the ads tend to cost less, and advertisers are spending more money on display and social ads instead of search ads. Almost all of Google’s revenue comes from advertising and the vast majority from search advertising.

“The quantification of mobile revenues gives us an indication that Android is cementing Google’s position in mobile advertising,” said Jordan Rohan, an analyst at Stifel Nicolaus. “Google’s ability to diversify away from the parts of its businesses that are maturing is impressive.”

Last week, Stifel Nicolaus downgraded Google stock from buy to hold, citing concerns about a slowdown in search. “The paid search industry is maturing and slowing down, without a doubt,” said Roger Barnette, president of IgnitionOne, which provides digital marketing data. “Advertisers have other options that they haven’t had before.”

Nikesh Arora, Google’s chief business officer, said that its desktop business maintained momentum and that Google.com grew faster than a year ago. Google’s financial report also showed that desktop search advertising continued to chug along.

That provided some comfort to shareholders and analysts who have been spooked by Google’s charging ahead with aggressive hiring, new businesses and high-priced acquisitions, like its $12.5 billion bid for Motorola Mobility. On Thursday, Google said it hired 2,585 people in the third quarter, up from 1,526 new people in the same quarter a year ago, bringing its total to 31,353. The third quarter was its second-highest quarter ever for hiring recent college graduates.

“I don’t love a lot of the things that Google’s doing, but their core business is a powerhouse,” said Colin W. Gillis, an analyst at BGC Partners. “When they bust out revenues above expectations, all the sins are forgiven.”

Such worries about expenses — along with concerns about continuing antitrust investigations, competition from Facebook and deteriorating economic conditions — have caused Google’s share price to drop 8 percent this year. But in after-hours trading, shareholders responded favorably to the earnings report, as shares rose 6 percent. Google also highlighted the growth of several of its newer businesses. Google+, its social network and Facebook competitor, has 40 million users who have uploaded 3.4 billion photos, Mr. Page said, and Google plans to begin incorporating it into other Google products. Chrome, its browser, has 200 million users, and people have activated 190 million Android phones.

Google so far seems to be mostly sheltered from the slumping economy, which has hurt other Web sites and publications that rely on advertising. Still, Mr. Barnette said, if the economy continues to suffer advertisers could cut back or move in greater numbers to new kinds of ads. “Growth going forward will more closely mimic the overall economic industry and ad budgets in general,” he said.

Clicks on ads on Google and other Web sites increased 28 percent over the same quarter last year and 13 percent over the second quarter this year, Google said. The amount Google was paid for clicks increased 5 percent over last year, but decreased 5 percent over the second quarter of this year.

An increase in paid clicks often corresponds with a decrease in the amount paid for those clicks, said Susan Wojcicki, senior vice president for advertising at Google. The increase in mobile searching could also have caused a decrease in the cost per click, because mobile ads tend to cost less than desktop ones. Mr. Gillis said consumers spent more time comparing prices and made purchases less often.

Google has seen some softness in ad sales in Western Europe because of its economic struggles, Mr. Arora said. The North America business has been stable, and business in Australia, India and Brazil has been growing rapidly, he said.

Google reported net income for the period ending Sept. 30 of $2.73 billion, or $8.33 a share, up from $2.17 billion, or $6.72 a share, a year ago. Excluding the cost of stock options and the related tax benefits, Google’s third-quarter profit was $9.72 a share. Analysts had expected $8.74 a share.

The company said revenue was $9.72 billion, up from $7.29 billion in the year-ago quarter. Net revenue, which excludes payments to ad partners, was $7.51 billion, up from $5.48 billion, above analysts’ expectations of $7.2 billion....READ MORE RESOURCES

sun yat sen, 三民主義 China distorts central idea

sun yat sen, 三民主義 China distorts central idea

Taipei, Oct. 2 (CNA) Lily Sui-fong Sun, a granddaughter of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, said Sunday that the Chinese government has distorted the central idea of the founder of modern China and has tried to modify the facts. In an interview with the Hong Kong-based Mingpao newspaper , Sun expressed anger over the distortion of her grandfather's idea. "Some people have distorted my grandfather's `Three Principles of the People' and have implemented a string of policies to fool the citizens," she said.

Sun said that Jiang Zemin, who served as president of the People's Republic of China from 1993 to 2003, distorted her grandfather's "Three Principles of the People" during the 90th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution in 2001. She said that Jiang "deleted and changed history" and that she wrote him a letter to express her dissatisfaction. According to the granddaughter, Jiang replied in 2002 that he was willing to give financial assistance to activities related to the 1911 Xinhai Revolution led by Sun Yat-sen, and mentioned a sponsorship figure of US$10 million in 2008. She told the newspaper she refused the money because of Jiang's twisting of history.

In 1981, she went on, when she visited her grandfather's mausoleum in Nanjing, she found that the Kuomintang (KMT) emblem on the top of the tomb had disappeared. Sun Yat-sen was also the founder of the KMT. She added that some statues of Sun Yat-sen that she has donated have been destroyed in some Chinese cities. In recent years, Sun has attended several unveiling ceremonies for the bronze statues of her grandfather. She plans to give away a total of 100 of the statues. Sun, 76, is the third daughter of Sun Ke, Sun Yat-sen's eldest son, and his mistress Yan Aijuan. She was raised in Shanghai and Hong Kong, and moved to Honolulu after she got married. (By Nell Shen)

The Best Science Fiction Twenty-Eighth Annual Year’s Collection

The Best Science Fiction Twenty-Eighth Annual Year’s Collection

edited by Gardner Dozois is a big anthology of thirty-three stories and novellas. With a lot to mention, I’ll forego the usual introduction.

“A History of Terraforming” by Robert Reed is a melancholic story that reflects on the inherent intellectual and emotional weaknesses that bedevil the human race and seem, forever, to doom it to self-destructiveness. And, yet, suppose a gentle and wise man could live long enough to impose some self-discipline on us childlike humans. Would he not only transform planets, but also the people who live on them? It’s a pleasing, albeit elegiac meditation on the dangers of hubris and the value of humility. “The Spontaneous Knotting of an Agitated String” by Lavie Tidhar is also somewhat sad. Although we are the sum of our memories, there’s no guarantee that the removal of unhappy memories will make us any happier. Indeed, the irony is the very notion we might have forgotten something important could make us even more unhappy.

At last, I’m able to praise a story by Allen M. Steele. He’s so often come close with the ingenuity of his plotting, but I’ve always felt his work lacked an emotional heart. “The Emperor of Mars” proves a real delight. It’s a reassuring tale of a colony faced with a worker having a serious psychotic break. Instead of reacting with intolerance, there’s a surprisingly supportive response, allowing the man to live in the world as he chooses to believe it is. “The Things” by Peter Watts is the other side of the John W Campbell, “Who Goes There?” as told by the alien “thing”. I was interested in the idea, but thought it went on too long. “The Sultan of the Clouds” by Geoffrey A. Landis is a most ingenious story about money and power in a future version of our solar system. The physical descriptions of life on Venus are fascinating and the plot itself neatly dovetailed together. On a note of frustration, I can understand why the story ended where it did, but I remain curious as to what happened next.....READ MORE

amber ann, an xin ya, amber an, 安心亚, amber ann taiwan, Amber Ann as Yao Yao, Amber Anne Love - "Amber's Dream" tops Five Music album sales chart

Otaku goddess Amber Ann topped the Five Music album sales chart on its first week. With a 48-page photo book free with the preorder version, it sure got the otakus rushing to buy the album. However, some netizens suspected Amber’s company of buying the placement on the chart since her album was just released on the 26th; many found it hard to believe that the album would get first place after just one day of sales.

Amber’s record company Wonderful Music emphasized, “We never pay to get first place on the sales charts. We started selling the album a day earlier (25th) at Five Music’s retail locations. Furthermore, instead of charging the regular price of $400 TWD, we sold the album for $299 and it comes with a free poster. It was a great bargain for the fans.”
